Denton based Technology Resource Center of America, LLC move their headquarters to a new 88,000 square foot facility located at 2600 East University Drive.

The firm, one of the largest voice and data companies in the United States, had their offices previously at 3401 E. University Drive.

The new office/warehouse facility sits on 16 acres and will accommodate TRCA's size requirements, said the news release.

The seller, Weatherol Supply Company was represented by Dan Spika of Henry S. Miller Brokerage, the sole broker in the transaction.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

El Fenix opened today at the corner of Loop 288 and Interstate 35E.

By lunch hour, it was pretty full with customers enjoying their meals while listening to mariachi music courtesy of Mariachi de Oro.

Denton Mayor Mark Burroughs; District 1 City Council member, Charlye Heggins, André J. "Frenchy" Rheault from Frenchy's Lawn and Tree and Police Chief Roy Minter stopped in to welcome the 17th El Fenix restaurant to Denton.

"I am here representing the people," said a happy Frenchys as he enjoyed his food.

CEO and owner Mike Karns said he was excited to finally have a restaurant in Denton.

"It was one of the most requested areas, that is why I came here, we are excited about being here," said Karns who purchased the company in 2008 from the family owners.

Known for its chips (which are made at the Harry Hines Headquarters in Dallas) and salsa, El Fenix began in 1918. It was founded by Mike Martinez who created a family business after opening the first restaurant in the "Little Mexico" side of town in Dallas.

John McBride, Jr., one of the Martinez's family members and presently the chief operation officer for the restaurant chain said the new El Fenix has been busy since Friday when they hosted a special evening with 125 guests, then opened Saturday for dinner and had another soft opening on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We fed about 350 people for free yesterday," McBride said talking about the Sunday opening.

Argyle's The General Store has been opened for the past month. Co-owned by Lynn Carrico and Deanie Willis, the store features home decor, fine wines, gourmet foods-to-go and other items.

The General Store will host their Holiday Open House and grand opening events on Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 15 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Carrico and Willis are already taking orders for gift giving and holiday desserts.

The Purple Door Day Spa held their ribbon cutting Ceremony and grand opening event the afternoon of Wednesday, October 28.

Karen Walterscheid, executive director of the Pilot Point Chamber of Commerce said in a news release the event, attended by 300 guests, was held at renovated Historical Building - one of the oldest brick building in Denton County located at the downtown square.

The Purple Door Day Spa is located at 114 W. Main Street and is owned by Bobbie Jezek.

To satisfy their Italian food cravings, residents in Corinth are getting a new restaurant this weekend. Called Poppy's Place, the restaurant will open on Saturday, August 22 at 6 a.m.

The new American Italian family restaurant will offer American breakfasts, pizza and Italian specialties.

Carl Pugliese (known as Poppy) and the owner of the restaurant, learned the Italian cuisine from his father, mother and grandmother and trained in restaurant management before embarking on his own. Pugliese used to work in construction, we learned before opening his business.

"Carl has dreamed of opening a family restaurant of his own for years," said Ted Larson, a friend of Carl's who told us about the grand opening, "He grew up working in his dad's restaurant on the East Coast."

According to Poppy's Web site, Pugliese's father, Carl F. Pugliese Sr., owned and operated a restaurant in Greenwich, CT called the Wedge Hut for 20 years.

The new restaurant is located at 4405 E. Pokrus Page Rd., in what used to be Brier Inn Café, north of Utter Ford on the northbound I-35 service road.

Poppy's Place hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to their Facebook page. It will be closed on Sunday.

A new post office store front opened two weeks ago inside the local Sack-N-Save.

"You can do everything there you can do at the regular post office, there are no p.o. boxes and you can't pick up certified letter, but we can do everything else." Gary Shelton, owner of the Sack-N-Save off I-35 in Denton said.

Shelton said the post office has been busy since it opened and he expects traffic will increase as soon as school starts.

Its location, Shelton said, only two blocks away from the University of North Texas, is more convenient for the students who live there.

"The downtown post office is inconvenient to get to, especially if you don't live in that area," Shelton said.

The officer in charge of the location is Tracy Cullum.

The post office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Frustrated of coming across heavy chairs, a Denton resident designed one of his own.

Fred Hensley, president of the Festino Corporation of Denton said the idea emerged in 2007.

"I'm partly disabled, I can't walk or stand well and I have difficulty doing things outdoors so I tried to find something I could do easily," Hensley, 49, said.

After designing three prototypes, Hensley came up with a chair that can be set up and folded easily and required little space for storage. It weights 5 lbs and once folded it is just 3-inches stick which can be carried like a backpack. The chair includes a pouch for carried items and a drink holder.

Hensley said he named his new product the Sherpa Chair after the climbers from Mount Everest who carry stuff.

"They are called sherpas," he said.

Hensley will debut his new chair which comes in red, forest green and camouflage colors at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City next month.

It's new to Denton and its called Hot Box Pizza.

Based in Indiana, the new pizzeria will open its first franchise location in Denton on Monday, April 20 at Industrial and Hickory St.

Owners, Lonnie Linder and his two partners, Scott Russo and James Lawson, wanted to open a place that would welcome the town's college crowd, artists and music lovers.

"We want to be part of the art scene and everything that has to do with the arts," Linder, 41, said, "We want to help promote them and support them."

Names like Pesto Mambo, Eve's Garden, The Aloha and Heavy Veggie are some of the items that will be available along with "make your own" options. Linder said customers can expect to see the same menu and price every day.

"It's a good quality pizza place," he said.

Linder's son, Drew, 23, will be the store manager and will work on getting everyone connected through social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

On Saturday, May 2, Hot Box Pizza will be giving free pizza for a year to the first one hundred customers.

Store hours are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Wednesday through Saturday 11 am. to 4 am.

The ribbon cutting will be hosted on April 23rd at 4 p.m.

For Crissy Camp, co-owner of Emma's Boutique on Brinker Road, boutique shopping doesn't have to be expensive.

Last October 4, Camp, 23 and her mother Teri Camp, 44 put their good taste to good use and after five years of research and planning, opened Emma's Boutique. In addition accessories, jewelry and designer jeans, they also sell greeting cards and other items, including steel water bottles with cool graphics to college students and clients in their 40's.

"One of the biggest complaints we got was that boutiques were expensive," Camp said about the kind of business they wanted to open, "We keep our prices reasonable."

The Camps decided to run the store themselves because they want to offer personal attention to their clients, Teri said. In addition to sharing work duties, they also manage a page on Facebook where they offer specials to their "friends."

Owned by Theresa Tucker, 47, A Beautiful Place Therapy Spa offers massages, facials and chemical treatments in addition to specializing in neuromuscular and oncology-based therapies.

"We are not fancy," Tucker said about her new location, the previous home of Family Medicine & Women's Health Center. She is still painting and updating certain rooms to provide more services for her clients.

Denton Florist opened at their new location on Monday, December 29.

Originally expected to open on January 2, the flower shop reopened at 2926 E. University, Suite 103 on the Southwest corner of 380E and Loop 288 a week early.

"It's been going well, we have lots of customers come in," Christine Dear, owner of Denton Florist said about her first day of new business, "It is such a good traffic area and easy access."

Known originally as Selby's Flower Shop, Denton Florist opened its doors in the downtown Square in the 1930s. Since then, it remained in business at the same 101 N. Elm St. location until its closing last week.

Denton Florist will host their ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration on Thursday, January 15 at 4 p.m. with catering provided by Fremaux Metropolitan Catering.

Ana Hernando said one of the goals of her new pediatric center is not to "fix" a child with autism but to help them recognize the letters of their name.

"It's pretty incredible when they can do that," she said.

Located at 2435 W. Oak St., Suite 102 near Presbyterian Hospital, Hope Pediatric Therapy & Learning, PLLC offers the only sensory learning program in Denton in addition to many services including occupational and physical therapy as needed to children from ages 0 - 21.

"With the sensory learning program we can see results in 30 days, making them [her clients] reach their goals in twice the time," Hernando said about the results her clients receive with the sensory learning program.

Hernando's center includes a playing area, a library with board games and toys as well as a kitchen where children can learn about daily activities. Her current staff of two includes Staci Daniel, the speech language pathologist, and relationships manager, Scott Solomon.

An occupational therapist for 11 years, Hernando, 37, opened Hope Pediatric Therapy & Learning, PLLC in June. She completed her Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas in 1994, a Master's of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman's University in 1997 and a Master's in Business Administration from Our Lady of the Lake in 2000. She is married and has two children, Evelyn, 9 and Noah, 12.

A new Aaron's Sales and Lease store opened in Hickory Creek yesterday.

The new store located at 4320 FM 2181 helps credit-constrained consumers acquire basic home furnishing, appliances and electronics.

"It was an Eckerd, and then it became a CVS, but they never opened," Barry Steele, Hickory Creek EDC Consultant said about the Aaron's store location.

This is the first Aaron's to open in the Lake Cities area and the first in the town of Hickory Creek. There are two Aaron's stores in Denton and Lewisville.

A new Mi Casita location opened Monday in Denton.

Adding to their already successful chain of Mexican food, owners Lilly and Matt Kohandani opened their fourth location at the previous home of Weinerschinzel on the corner of Loop 288 and I-35 on Monday.

"It was pretty good, without doing anything special," Mr. Kohandani said about his opening day.

He also said his customers were quite happy to visit the new restaurant.

"They all live here and work here; they were happy to have this place on the way to work for their breakfast or lunch," he said.

Mr. Kohandani will operate the new location while his wife Lilly manages the N. Carroll restaurant. His brother Bahram operates the larger, 3,000-square-foot building at 219 Main St. in Lake Dallas, which opened last year.

Near the intersection of S Loop 288 and Spencer Road, construction is well under way on a new 45,000 square foot workout facility, L.A. Fitness Sports Club.
And it will be one of the largest L.A. Fitnerss locations in Texas, said Terry "Buzz" Buzzards Jr, the weekend general manager for L.A. Fitness. The facility will have thousands of cardio machines, a basketball court, a volleyball court, five racquetball courts, spinning rooms, a 25-meter junior Olympic swimming pool, hot tub and separate saunas, among other amenities, "Buzz" said.
About 300 charter members from Krum, Argyle and Aubrey have already signed up at the location, he said.
The club is scheduled to open betyween Jan. 5 to Jan . 25, just in time for New Year resolutions, "Buzz" said.
"Denton is a booming area," he said. "It's a good central location, a perfect fit."

Charter Communications, the third largest publicly traded cable operator in the U.S., headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, will host the grand opening of its new sales and service center in Denton on Saturday, November 1.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southridge Village at 2340 I-35 E South, Suite 180, the company's new location. It will include family-friendly activities and giveaways for children as well as a special guest appearance from the famous Boomerang character, Scooby Doo.

"We look forward to offering Denton residents a better customer experience through the upgraded amenities available to us at our new location," said Dan Hebert, vice president and general manager for Charter markets in Texas via a press release.

Katie Holley will start tomorrow as one of the new estheticians at Amici Salon & Skincare located off the Square. Holley received her license a couple of weeks ago and is ready to join the family business as a co-owner along with her sister, Cassie Longoria and her mom, Patricia White.

Longoria has been in the salon business for the past 9 years and her mom for 25 years in Denton.

A new fine jewelry consignment, appraisal and consulting business will be opening next to Burgundy on Hickory later this month.

Lora Amyx-Gorman and her brother Joe William Amyx will be running the new business catered to people who wish to buy, sell or have them appraise their jewelry. According to Amyx-Gorman, both are graduate gemologists educated in Carlsbad, California at the Gemological Institute of America.

"As a consignment shop, we offer the service of selling fine jewelry in a safe, reliable environment and the opportunity for people to purchase a variety of jewelry at prices below what one would find in a typical retail environment," Amyx-Gorman said via e-mail.

For the past four months, same store sales at the Golden Triangle Mall have trended upward in the single-digits, breaking away from a long-series of negative same store sales.
Matt Ludemann, regional director for the mall, said the store sales aren't the only thing changing. He said the redevelopment of the mall could change from what was previously presented.
Although Ludemann wouldn't go into details of the yet to be final plans, he did mention new and upcoming additions to the mall.

Denton Costume and Dance World, a 30-year-old Denton business, reopened in the mall in the previous location of Lunar Golf. The golf store moved down the mall corridor next to Hollister.

Willow Creek, an new embroidery store, moved into the mall.

Any day now, Carlene Research, a general market research firm, will move into the mall, Ludemann said. The research firm could offer mall patrons money to participate in research on anything from food to candy to company research.

It was quite busy at Plato's Closet today. Shoppers started lining up outside the teen inspired new store around 7:30 in the morning, about three hours before its grand opening.

Plato's Closet is a retail store for teens and twenty somethings who want to buy and sell their latest looks in gently used clothing and accessories according to owner Melody Watson.

"I was a full time mom before I started this," said the mother of three who about five weeks ago did not have any inventory in the store.

Inside the store shoppers can find some of the famous brand of clothing like Abercrombie & Fitch, J Crew and Old Navy.

One mom taking advantage of the grand opening was Ilah Blackett, a resident of Aubrey, who waited to take her four teenagers shopping.

"We did not even do any tax income, tax free shopping because we knew we were going to come here," Blackett said.

"We expected the crowd of a few up front. But then before we opened the line was behind the building," Watson said.

Let's play some soccer!

Starting tomorrow, soccer fans may purchase their apparel at The Soccer Place on 3001 N. Elm St. #201 in Denton.

Owners, Ruben Rivas, 26 and his wife, Marlene Faria, 27 decided to take ideas from stores in Dallas and Lewisville and create their own version.

Rivas, originally from San Jose, Calif. and Faria, born in Pico, Azores (an island near Portugal) have one daughter, six-year-old Tatiana.

"We got into it because our daughter enjoys playing and we got involved with it," Rivas said about the inspiration for the new business. Rivas is the coach of his daughter's recreational soccer team at the Denton Soccer Association.

Rivas and his wife moved from California to Denton in 2006 mainly to purchase a home and thought it was a cool thing to start the store two years later.

The Soccer Place will host the UNT men's recreational team and other teams during their grand opening. They will also have as a raffle on Friday with prizes given away on Sunday.

"We will have everything any soccer player and soccer coach is going to need," Rivas said.

Meet Skate Diva (the skating representative), and Skate Flash (the after school program representative) of the new Lights-N-Motion, Inc. – a new skating rink and childcare facility located in Pilot Point.

The facility opened last December 21st under the leadership of Judy Nelson who is the owner and director. She works with Sherri Smith, the marketing and events coordinator and together they’ve created a family friendly Christian-based business.

Nelson offers parents a bit more than what may be available at most locations or after school facility for children and their parents. She offers preschool, after school, and summer programs for elementary and intermediate students, including a mentor program for middle school students.

She is in the process of hiring a summer camp instructor to help direct the camp.

“The camps are going to be terrific combining movement and science, sports and bugs and stuff,” Nelson said via e-mail. She does not have the dates for the camps just yet, but will let you know soon.

Facility rentals are also available.

You did not get a chance to meet, Lightbulb (the preschool representative), in this piece, because according to Nelson, Lightbulb was a bit shy and she could not find her on her computer.

Stay Strong Physical Therapy, a new state-of-the-art physical therapy facility, located in the Argyle Business Center at Highway 377 and Hamilton Drive, recently opened last Thursday, March 13. The goal of the new facility is to provide patients with one-on-one care that can lead patients to a full recovery and provide them with a healthy lifestyle.

Owned and operated by Brett Braziel and Travis Fulton, who are physical therapists themselves, the center provides specialized care in the areas of orthopedics, sports injuries, arthritis, post-operative care, low back pain, neck pain, total joint replacements, and other related type of physical therapy care. According to the press release provided by the Argyle Chamber of Commerce, in addition to his Masters of Physical Therapy, Soell has earned a certification through the Titleist Performance Institute as a golf fitness instructor, and can teach golfers how to recognize and overcome physical limitations that may restrict their potential. Soell continues to further his education by actively pursuing a certification as a Mechanical Diagnostic Therapist through the McKenzie Institute. He also plans to become a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.

Stay Strong Physical Therapy offers comprehensive treatment plans that include functional evaluation, exercise prescription, manual therapy, modalities, and patient education.

Ida Bonaparte has not finished placing her temporary sign up, but she is ready for business.

Bonaparte, 47, will open her own nail salon on Fort Worth Drive around April 1st. She will spend this Sunday getting everything finalized. The business, under the name Healthy Pedicures Etc. By Ida. The name is the reflection of what she will offer her current and future clients, an overall consciousness of healthy pedicures along with manicures, basic spa, a private sports manicure section for guys and products for diabetic clients.

“My heart says that I need to offer something different to help people care for their nails and educate them on what do to look for in a clean nail salon,” Bonaparte said about why she wanted to start her business. Bonaparte said she is the only member of the International Pedicure Association, a certified master pedicurist and a specialist in diabetic pedicures. “It is no well know in this area yet,” said Bonaparte about her focus on proper sanitation at nail salons. She said it is something her clients like about her.

Bonaparte received advance training from the North American School of Pedicuring in 2006 and is a certified master pedicurist. Additionally, she took courses on proper sanitation and health safety classes on feet, skin and nails taught under the directon of the IPA CEO & Founder, Dr. Dennis Arnold, Podiatry Surgeon out of Fort Worth.

Before becoming a nail salon owner, Bonaparte was a 911 supervisor for the City of Denton Police Department and volunteered her time doing nails at senior homes. She also educated students in the school district about emergency preparedness. She retired from her work to have a more flexible schedule. She is a wife and a mom to three children.

She said that her nail business started as a hobby, but realized she also needed a steady income; so she decided to open the doors where nail clippers and sanitizers could happy provide clients a good service.

Before launching her new venture, Bonaparte worked with Pablo Classon, at Genesis Salon on Dallas Drive where she also picked up some Spanish. Before Classon, Bonaparte worked at other salons around Denton after she left her police job in 2003. She worked for the police department for 21 years.
