David_Bridges_2009.jpg Denton Regional Medical Center announced that Emergency Department employee, David Bridges, EMT-P, was named as the 2009 Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council's Employee of the Year. The award recognizes hospital non-management employees - the nurses, technicians and educators for their contributions.

"The Employee of the Year Luncheon has become an annual opportunity to honor the North Texas hospital workforce," said Sally Williams, Workforce Center director at the Foundation in a press release. "This event offers employees a chance to be recognized for their dedicated work. It's a celebration of great employees making a difference in our hospitals."

David Bridges, EMT-P has been employed as a Paramedic in the Emergency Department since June of 2000. While employed at Denton Regional Medical Center, Bridges has continued his education and will soon complete degree requirements to become a registered nurse. He also volunteer his time in the community where he is involve with the Texas-4 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), which travels across the United States to provide life saving care after natural disasters, according to the release.

"During 2008 alone, David and the Texas-4 DMAT team were deployed to provide medical care for victims of Hurricane Dolly, Hurricane Gustav, and Hurricane Ike. Hurricane's Gustav and Ike required David and his team members to be deployed for over a month at a time, during which time they were responsible for many different assignments - from receiving patients at DFW International Airport, to setting up a makeshift emergency room on the Rice University campus and establishing a patient care clinic in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Galveston," said the release.

Bridges was recognized at the annual Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Education and Research Foundation Workforce Center's Employee of the Year Luncheon at the Arlington Convention Center held in April.

Presby now part of Texas Health Resources

Presbyterian Hospital of Denton is officially now under new ownership.

As reported in the Denton Record-Chronicle in February, yesterday (March 31) was the closing date of the settlement transaction between Arlington-based Texas Health Resources and the subsidiaries of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health System Inc., the previous owners of the hospital.

Last December, the companies announced their pending agreement in which
Community Health Systems' Triad-Denton Hospital GP LLC and Triad-Denton Hospital LP transferred their partnering units to Texas Health Resources. This would settle a 2007 federal lawsuit over the purchase interests in the Denton facility.

Wendell Watson, public relations director for Texas Health Resources, told the Denton Record-Chronicle earlier this year that he did not expect any changes in the operation of the hospital.

Today Denton Regional announced the opening of the final phase of their Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which will allow patients from Denton and its surrounding areas to receive many services at one location.

The center will now be able to offer oncology (chemo) services, radiation oncology, comprehensive diagnostic imaging and breast diagnostics, inpatient surgical services and integrated nutrition, education, and cancer rehabilitation, according to the news release.

“The Cancer Center at Denton Regional will be a single-source cancer care resource equipped with the most advanced technology and headed by physicians with credentials from leading cancer centers,” Caleb O’Rear, chief executive officer said.

Phase I occurred last year with the opening of the Denton Regional Radiation Oncology, the first and only facility in the area to offer cancer patients Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) with On-Board Imaging. Phase II of the project began last October and consisted of the first addition of The Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders opened in January and is located in the Denton Regional Professional Office Building, directly across the hall from Denton Regional Radiation Oncology facility.
