The Spinal Decompression Center donates funds and backpacks for Friends of the Family

Dr. Vince Baugher, D.C., his team at The Spinal Decompression Center along with their patients raised over $1500.00 and donated over 40 backpacks each filled with school supplies for children in need through Friends of the Family. The fundraiser was held on July 28.

Shannon Hess, public relations representative with the company said the kids were very excited to be a part of event and to help other children in need.

PrimeLending donated $3,000 for the Denton County Habitat for Humanity's Special Women Build campaign. Construction is planned to start in April with a home to be built in Denton on Wilson Street.

DYP donates money to local charities and students

Denton's Young Professionals (DYP) donated a total of $6,250 to local charities and students in 2008. The announcement was made via a press release last December 31.

In June of 2008, DYP awarded Laney Sims, a graduate of Fred Moore High School last December with $4,000. Fred Moore High School is DYP's Adopt-A-School.

The organization also provided funds $500 four organizations - the Chrysalis Foundation, Fred Moore Day Care, The Children's Advocacy Center and the Freedom House, according to the release.

Additionally, selected essay student winner s received a total of $250 in awards during the organization's monthly membership luncheon, held last December 9.

DoubleDave's to host fundraiser Nov. 3

DoubleDave's Pizzaworks in Denton will host a fundraiser for the Texas Woman's University's Child Abuse Prevention Society. The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 3. Ten percent of all sales made between 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. will go toward the organization.

"We support the Denton community and that means supporting the Denton-area organizations that do good work for others," Ali Kohandani, one of the franchise restaurant's owners, said via a press release.

Dine-in, carry out and delivery orders will all count towards the net sales.

The restaurant is located at 220 W. University Drive, just minutes from the TWU campus.

Gift given to the DHCC

The Martinez family provided a $15,000 donation to the Denton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce from the Estate of Gilbert Martinez, past chair of the DHCC.

Gilbert Daniel Martinez passed away last April 6, 2007 from an automobile accident. In addition to serving for years on the DHCC board, he was a LULAC member and was appointed to the Denton Housing Authority Board. He was a mortgage banker for over twenty years, previously at Pulaksi Mortgage.

The donation was provided to the DHCC at the Denim and Diamonds Gala last March. The funds have been designated to the building fund of the organization.
