Carl Pugliese (known as Poppy) and the owner of the restaurant, learned the Italian cuisine from his father, mother and grandmother and trained in restaurant management before embarking on his own. Pugliese used to work in construction, we learned before opening his business. "Carl has dreamed of opening a family restaurant of his own for years," said Ted Larson, a friend of Carl's who told us about the grand opening, "He grew up working in his dad's restaurant on the East Coast." According to Poppy's Web site, Pugliese's father, Carl F. Pugliese Sr., owned and operated a restaurant in Greenwich, CT called the Wedge Hut for 20 years. The new restaurant is located at 4405 E. Pokrus Page Rd., in what used to be Brier Inn Café, north of Utter Ford on the northbound I-35 service road. Poppy's Place hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to their Facebook page. It will be closed on Sunday.
